Just curious if anybody is using sand filters on their setups, I have been debating whether or not to add one. The reason I am considering it is my sharks like to stir my sand up allot which obviously clouds my water and I was thinking a sand filter might help clarify the cloudy water faster. Just a thought and I am open to other suggestions for clearing the water faster aswell.

Sometimes people call fluidized sand beds "sand filters", so I was just checking. :)

I'd do it. I like sand filters for larger set ups. I'm actually trying some new media from Aquatic Eco in sand filter housings. It's an artificial bead that isn't supposed to channel like sand. I'm not sure I like it. New media is too light and it floats alot when I backwash. I see some leave everytime. :(

I would definitely like to add a sand filter, just trying to figure a way of doing it without adding another pump. Im wondering if i can use my large protein skimmer pump and install the sand filter before the skimmer.

The only problem with that is as your filter plugs up the pressure to you skimmer will go down. You could one after your sump

for roughly 1500 gallons in system, what size of sand filter would you guys recommend? would 200 lbs be overkill?

If your using it just to add on to you existing filtration I would go with something small like a 50lbs-100lbs
