Different place, different names. I'll also seen tham called water cows, sleeper goby, marbled goby,

Ive seen them called sand gobies, marbled goby, and freshwater stonefish... I had one pretty cool fish. If you give them sand they will bury themselves under it with only their head sticking out like a stonefish then inhale any fish small enough that swims by

yes there alot of names for these cool monster its a sad thing here in singapore they could be found in restaurant ready to be eaten by people. here the sand goby is also called 'soon hock' in dialect
i used to fish alot in the past and i caught a monster about 20" and its a fatty i had a cooler box with me left it inside and went home
when i reached home it was still alive so i thought i have a monster specimen here and ive got an empty 55gal sitting there .well keep it! i kept it for about a year and it died

you would like a bare bottom for these guys
they would mess up your gravels and stuff
and it nice to be able to see them
mine hides behind a filter pump everytime and come out when theres no one around and when the lights are off
