hey people any1 can help me? im thinking of putting sand into my tank or gravel and which kind should i get? and how often should i change the tank? and how would i change it(like cleaning the poop under all those sand/gravel)?

I think any type of sand or gravel works with aros as they cruise the top and rarely touch the bottom. Change the tank as in water change? If i remember correctly you have a couple aros with a few bottom dwellers and such, you might want to do 2 or 3 a week instead of once a week. Cleaning the gravel would be just tossing the gravel. As you stirr it up, all the waste and dirty stuff float in the water while the gravel sinks back down, and you just do a regular water change. OR you can get a gravel cleaner, it works with sand too. If you get the gravel cleaner, you could do it every waterchange, and if you decide to stir up the gravel, maybe once a week is good. Id recommend the gravel cleaner though as silvers are pretty jumpy and im not sure they're going to like your hand in their tank stirring up everything.

Do some research and see what you like best. With your fish you would be fine with a thin layer of substate 1/2" at most. Too many people go way too deep with there gravel or sand and this can be unhealthy for the tank.

ok thx ppl =D

well im adding it too make my gar, bichir's color a little darker

bbump anybody got guide too gravel tank? and do you know if bichirs would eat sum gravel?

i wanna make my gars/bichirs darker

Dunno if it works the same with bichirs, but I had a tiger ray which had light colouring, so i put black bristol board over the WHOLE tank and never turned on the light for about 6 months. Great results. After 6 months i turned my lights on and ripped off the bristol board and he had the best colouring out of all my rays.

i change my mind too black sand haha =D and iv seen many bichir comm that have no substrates are light color and 1s with substrates have dark color
