About 3 weeks ago I bought 120lbs of aragonite sand for my 75g tank, and rinsed all of it out in about 6 hours, though that probably wasnt enough. After pouring the sand in the tank, I put in about 15g of water to give the sand some time to settle, and left it in there for a few days. After no sign of clearing up, I put in more water and filled it up almost to the top, thinking it would dilute the sand or something; still nothing though.

Last week, I had to go away for a business trip and the day before I left I got a bunch of filter bags and filled them up with gravel from my cycled cichlid tank, as well as a cube of beefheart and some mulm, hoping that perhaps if it began cycling, the beneficial bacteria would weigh down the sand or something. Since bacteria needs air to live, I turned on my air pump to the lightest level so it didn't disturb the sand much. I came back on Friday and it was just as cloudy as before, so that didn't do anything.

Finally, yesterday I spent a good 4 hours emptying out the tank, running my hands through the sand trying to rinse it more, filling it with water and emptying it again, and this time when I filled it (only 20g this time) I put in a plastic surface and a few decorations to pour water on so it doesnt disturb the sand, but it still became cloudy. Im getting extremely frustrated, why is my sand not settling at all? If anyone can please help me out I would MUCH appreciate it! Thanks!

Experienced this to a couple of months ago.. although I really did not have the patience that you clearly do..
I took it all out, then threw it all away and bought new. Now it's fine ;)

I wont use playsand because it doesnt contain the trace elements and buffering capacity aragonite does.

And oh man haha I can't do that, this whole thing cost me around $100 for the sand hahaha

do you have any filters running? if not you could try a sponge filter, they're cheap, effective, and don't have a motor to ruin.

No I have an aquaclear 110 in there that I dont have running for fear of ruining the impellers, but I will have to try the sponge filters. Besides that though, is there any other way? And am I going to have to suffer through this anytime I add decorations?

sounds like you didn't get it all the way clean. It will take you some time to get it right, but when you do it should be fine. You won't have the clouds.

You should try pool filter sand, its cheap and it looks good. You can pick up a 50 pound bag around 13 bucks at your local pool store.
