i swithed over to sand as my substate after considerable thought..now i am getting alot in my filter...my set up is a 90 with africans..they are constantly moving it and stirring it up!! any ideas?? i love how the sand looks!!

take the intake away from the bottomw of the sand and raise it up higher, had to do that with my fx5. or you could put a fine sponge around the intake, although that would probably lower your filters flow rate and would most likely need to be cleaned fairly often. and ur filter will alwayhs get sand in it no matter, what, its just one of the things you have to deal with when using sand. what kind of filter do you have?

I had to move the intake higher to avoid stirring in some tanks it helps a ton. Also try putting a sponge over the intake. That will keep lots of stuff out.

haha great minds think alike

i have 2 penguin 350 and a ehiem 2226...just made the swithch last thursday.....the sand is all thoughout the water not just the bottom...

i'm having the same problem my male bistlenose plec loves kicking the sand up, i'm going to shorten the filter intake.

did you let the sand settle before putting your filters on? if not they could keep the sand suspended in the water column rather than settling out. In addition did you wash the sand first? if not, the loose light sand could have stayed in with the good sand when you put it in your tank.
