I have black sand and my filter is a 20 gallon aqueon. Its been set up for about 2-3months and the filter has slowly clogged up and now its only filtering half what it used to. The intake tube has a big black sponge. Is there anything I can do to keep the impeller from clogging besides cutting it shorter?

Hello there. I have a Eheim 2228 and a magnum 350 on my 125 gallon and I am using sand as my substrate and have no problem. Without a picture I can't tell you exactly what to do, but if you have the pipe running down to low to the sand and you don't want to cut it, then I would suggest going down to a local Ace or Home Depot or hardware store that sells tubing and buy about a 7 inch tube that you could attach to the intake line and curve it up so that it won't be close to the sand. I know tubing here for 1 inch tubing is only $1.59 a foot so your not going to break the wallet. Have a nice day
