currently have a bare bottom but it looks so plain.

What do you guys think? What kind of sand is safe for rays?

UnstoppableJayD UnstoppableJayD reffered me to Caribsea Torpedo beach and I am very pleased.

The sand is completely round, so it's safe for rays, but it's also big enough so the sand won't stick to the rays and its very unlikely to make it into a filter. I had a bad experience with pool filter sand sticking to my hystrix rays, and went been bare bottom until Jay mentioned Caribsea.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that sand carries tremendous biological filtration. And with the rays constantly moving the sand around, as well as some Geophagus, the sand is essentially self cleaning. Like a poor man's moving bed filter. lol.

Our pool filter sand is actually very, very nice
Doesn't get stuck to the rays or into filters

We had a problem, like yours, when we started but it was Play Sand that gave us the problem
That got stuck to the rays
