The tanks dimensions are 94" long and 48" wide. How much sand would I need to make a thick 5" layer of sand? I was thinking either very fine black or white gravel or pool filter sand. What do you think? If either one, how much of it?

Sand, how much? No clue, typically 1lb per gallon so 300lb+ of sand maybe?

I was thinking that I could try to do an estimate with some sand I have lying around. I think I have 300 pounds and ill try to spread out surface area over a rough shape of the tank. Would black blasting sand work? My stepdad works at a blasting mine and I can get 500 pounds for like $20. So would blasting sand work? It is really fine grain and seems great for fish tanks. It has rock remains in it so it should be pretty heavy and not stirred up easily

I'm gonna get 500 pounds then. Lol I just want to make sure its a nice thick bed of sand. I'll be in the tank rofl and my dad will hand me the sand bags so I can open them in the tank so they can settle. So pool filter sand? No play sand! I refuse play sand lol all it does is mix up and get destroyed and make the water dirty!

I advise against that. Although pool filter sand comes relatively clean, it still needs a very thorough pre rinsing. Good luck ; )
