Sand or no sand?

I have tan sand in my tank with a pirate theme. Should I keep the sand or change it to gravel. Sand is just a pain to keep clean

No sand - bare bottom tank all day long - cleaner. I painted the bottom of my tanks either a sandy color or black - I'll never go back to gravel or sand now -

Sand. It's FAR easier to keep clean... at least as far as I'm concerned.

Of course I painted the outside bottom - inside not recommended -

yes, I have all of those fish you noted and they all thrive - No mess and easy to maintain - make sure they have hiding places though i.e. stacked flagstone, pots, drift wood etc -

Painted bottom looks really good. I'm starting to hate the sand not for the mess, but for the reason that my cichlids dig holes and burry all my decoration.

Never thought of painting my tank bottom. I love painting the backs, but the bottom is freaking genius. Thanks bout to save money,time,and healthier fish.
