Sand or no sand?

I'm still getting around the saltwater set up, haven't yet setted up. Was wondering is it better to have live sand or no sand... The livestock which I wanted was 2 clownfish and one firefish or 1 clownfish, 1 firefish and 1 cleaner shrimp. 10galUK/12galUS

Do shrimps or crabs need sand? And does the live sand help with controlling ammonia, nh3/4 etc?

I have always used live sand in the bottom of my salt water aquariums except for in my hospital tank. Especially if you're planning on having crabs and or an anenome for your clowns to host in.

Live sand is called live for a reason, it had home to BB. You can do bare bottom but most people prefer tanks with sand.

Sand it holds lots of bb and will make your tank just better all.around

depends on if you want a deep sand bed or not i like 3 inches of sand personally so like 10 to 20 pounds?

I use crushed coral beacause it brings my PH up to 7.8 and were I live the PH is 6.
