why is this in the lounge?
is there a section for this? if so mods please move:)

ok aside from getting derailed. which is better? need to know before 1:00pm

Not a derailment if it helps answer your question. Sand will generally retain heat better then aquarium gravel. This is because of the larger voids in the gravel substrate. Densly packed sand insulates itself. But in practical fish keeping, I still don't see how heat retention would be used as a factor in picking one over the other.

sorry i cant tell if it's a derailment or not to save my life. the question was because it's getting cold where i live and i wanted to know which would keep my tank more warm. i've never had sand, but there's a first time for everything.

Best thing is a heater.
all ready have one. what temp. should it be? its at 79 right now.

Depends on what you are keeping. 79 is good for the bulk of aquarium fish kept. Is this the reading on the heater, or the actual tank temp? Those can very by quite a few degrees.
