hey guys, in the 10 gallon tank im setting up as a grow out for some 2"-3" ornates I decided to use sand for the first time after hearing all of the gravel swallowing horror stories, now I've never used sand before since ive only ever really used gravel before but How do you keep your sand from getting pushed over from your filters? Ive seen a bunch of tanks with sand and they all have HOBS and the sands perfect :[ dunno if im just not getting this or the answers right in front of my face and im just to confounded with it to get it...
thanks in advance

why bother using sand? it always better to keep it bare bottom, easier to clean, and you get the chance to see you OBs grow more often as they have no where to hide. Besides using sand does not eliminate the chance your OBs wont swallow them. Have a look at some people tank in the forum.
If you insist, then dont put whatever filter you use close to the sand, I'm talking about the inlet of the filter.

In my tank my intakes are a good ft away from my sand to be safe because my bichirs like to kick it up a good 6" when panicking

I have black dolomite sand for my African Cichlids and the sand hardly ever moves.. ever. I can even stick the vacuum tube in the sand, sift it around a bit to get any burried crap up and movin, and then sift it back flat... It all settles.. The filters are turned off during all of this of course but it's not nearly as bad anyone thinks. Pool filter sand for low ph, and the normal cichlid sand for high ph.
