Sand question !!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I made the mistake of not cleaning the dust out of the sand first, so don't make that mistake because i wasted a bunch of water cleaning it out. I dint know sand had dust. I did sand first then i poured the water over a rock so it dint stir the sand up. i would think if you poured the sand in to the water then the sand dust would get in the water. Then you could change the water to get all the sand dust out? That was just my experience this week sorry i cant be more helpful.

Bump for some one with better info

not sure on grade but get 100lbs 2 bags of pool sand i didn't really care what grade it also depends on what fishn you jave and what filter but wass very well 100lbs get you about 2.5 " of sand :)

I'm gonna get sand for the 75 I'm getting today. I'm gonna try and get the largest grain I can so I won't have to worry about the filters.

I changed my substrate from gravel to sand with water and the fish if you clean it first then use a small bucket and put it in slowly it will be just fine mine did not get very cloudy at all and all the fish did okay.

What Grade Pool Filter sand do i use???
Do i add water then sand or sand then wate?
Please help me i am new to sand and how many pounds do i need for a 75 gallon tank

I just added sand to my tank last week.. bought 50lbs pool filtration sand from a local pool/hottub store. I have a 60 gallon.. and the 50lbs is enough for it. Just fill up a bucket with water, water treatment chemicals if you want.. then add in sand, let it sit.. rinse till the water is clean.

i must of bought some real clean pfs....i didnt even rinse mine either time and had no problems with cloudy water. i added the sand and then put a dinner plate in and poured on that.
