So I was at OSH the other day and we got a few things including this. I thought it would be great if I could use this in an aquarium, only being $6/50lbs.

Would this work in an aquarium? If so what would any negatives be? And last if it's not good as aquarium substrate, why?

It's fine, just a pita cuz you need to wash it for a while and will still b cloudy for a bit

I have that in a tank I fine the grains are to small, and the sand is easily upset and placed all over my plants...

So my best bet would be to thoroughly wash it first, or should I just expect cloudiness regardless? After it's settled, cycled and had some W/Cs might it still cloud up from time to time? As long as it isn't a permanent recurring problem I wouldn't mind using it.

I've heard of this but never seen or tried it. What are the benefits and negatives of using it?

works just fine. i use silica sand. its 10 buks for 100 pounds. its like anything you just need to wash it. i think the pool sand is already washed tho.

I use it all over the place. You will be rinsing while you stir for at least 15 bucket changes. If you fill a bucket halfway with the stuff out of the bag, you'll be washing away at least 1/3 of it as silt. But it's great stuff for deep sand beds, since you can rinse it less and leave lots of finer particles in there to compact and go anaerobic at sufficient depth. Looks so natural, too.
