I thought this would be the best place to post this since most all the ray tanks I have seen use sand as the substrate. Anyhow, I am working on making a "bitope" for my pike cichlids and just wanted to know what type of sand can I use that will not raise my pH. I need the pH to stay between 6.5 and 7.0.

I use "Play Sand," and have never had it affect my pH. This is the stuff you buy at the local home improvement store; it's usually about five bucks for fifty pounds.

I second Playsand. But only if it's Quikrete brand. Also, if you have access to Pool Filter Sand, I'd give that a whirl.

Pool filter sand works great, my PH is very stable at 7. It goes for like 10-15 buck for 50 pounds. You can pick it up at Ace hardware or any swimming pool store.
