Sand settling Filter off

So today I swapped out the black rocks for black sand, right now the sand is settling, so I have the canister filter off. I have the hob filter and a a couple air wands , and power head running to keep the fish health. any ideas how long the I can leave the canister off? I was thinking over night.

If the sand is heavy...you can turn the canister on NOW. What kind of canister do you have?

i ran mine the whole time just cleaned it after the sand settled

Why leave the cannister off? What type cannister, most cannister filter designs are uneffected by sand getting into them.

turning the filter on freaked the fish out, its almost midnight here one of the bala shark knocked open the lid and jumped into the bucket I had the rocks in. lucky i was right there, and have now put weights on the lid,
