I am noticing that the sand from my tank is sticking to my ray as he goes around. how normal is this? I changed out the sand once already only because the sand was irritating the rays belly, I know this is most likely alright but just curious to know if the sand is suppose to stick the the underside of the belly?

I have occasionally heard of this, but it is not common from what i see.
What sand is it exactly? And is this new sand not irritating the rays’ belly?
As long as it is not doing any damage to the ray, like leaving irritation, i think it will be fine…

i used the tahiti moon sand. I had read many have used it here with the rays, actually my ray is looking alot better then he did with the old sand, that too stuck to him.

Hmm strange. If others use it without problems, I am completely baffled.
But if there is no irritation I can not see it being a problem.
You got any pictures by any chance?

If my ray gets burried deep into the sand, it will come up with some sand stuck to it. After a while he shakes it all off though.

this is why i use a very fine gravel

i hate the way sand sticks to the rays

I have heard a few times that tahitian moon sand is not good for rays its very sharp
i have used estes sand and gravel with no problems
gravel is the best imo
