Sand stiring

I just put sand in my tank as I posted in a earlier thread debaiting on what kind. Now its in there how often do I stir it up to prevent gas bubbles? An do air stones an wands increase the chance of gas pockets?

Looking for some words of wisdom.

Air stone under sand do not normally work because the sand is too light to stay on top of the sand. I have used MTS before and it helps on cutting down on stirring the sand. I havn't seen any gas pockets since the beginning of the tank cycle. I do check after my water changes.

i do once every 2 weeks, so far so good, most of the time, my bichir and catfish do all the work.

My RTC keeps the sand stired up.
When my GF does a water change she flatens the sand out then RTC moves it all around again.

Anyone try Malaysian snails? I heard this isn't a bad route if you don't mind snails. Thier supposed to stir the sand up for you. Sleeping in it during the day and coming out to eat algae at night. I'm gonna give this a shot in a couple of weeks. And this probably won't work if your fish eat snails. I'm pretty sure there will people that agree and disagree on this.
