???
what would be the best natural looking sandy substrate for rays? a motoro in particular? does anyone have any particular brands they've used that have been good to them? looking for one preferrable that i wont have to wash :naughty:

I use black sand. Just be carefull though. Don't use the sand w/ silica or it might irritate your ray.

how do you know if your gravel has silica??

Agreed.

Read the bag and it should say if it has silica in it. Estes is a good brand for rays. I use quickcrete playsand that you can get frome Lowes. $5 for 50lb but you have to wash it.

Thats cool, what color is it, I am looking to convert my ray tank into a sand tank but I want really light colored sand.

yah ima be going with the motoro most likely. i have black sand right now. but it seems like the edges would cut the underside so ima remove it. im thinking about using natural sand with a hint of black in the mix. :grinyes:

IME motoro don't look good on black sand. They turn very dark & the orange in their ocelli shrinks so that it nearly disappears.
They look best on natural sand :)

i am puizzled by the same ? setting up a 75g for small rays and don't know what color to use
