I know we've had probably 3.5 billion sand threads, but I did a quick search and didn't find an answer. Is it a bad idea to go sand in an acrylic tank? Am I likely to end up with lots of scratches? I like the sand look and was thinking I'd go sand, but if it's likely to scratch I'll stick with a thin gravel layer.

Not unless you get sand in a magfloat or cleaning pad. You will have to be careful while doing maintenance if you put sand in there, but you won't just get random scratches from having sand in the tank.

i think sand might do a lil better than gravel to be honest... just dont drag it on the sides of acrylic

Ah OK, makes sense. Thanks guys.
