i know for red foot tortoise alot of people recommend a mixture of either a 50/50 mix of peat moss and play sand or 50/50 mix of organic pot soil and play sand ...i cant find play sand at any home and garden store so my red foots are just on a 100% organic potting soil...but im wondering cause i know play sand is just sterilized sand do you think if i went to the beach and grabbed a five gal bucket of beach sand and soak it for three to five days changing water everyday and then bake it for 30min and 450 degrees would it be sterile ennough to use so i can do a 50/50 mix of sand and organic potting soil...let me know what you think...

I know beach sand has a lot of nasty stuff living in it like ecoli. But if you treat it like you say you will I believe it would be sterilized enough.
