I want to switch my sub. to sand from the gravel that is in now. I hav the fx5 and i know it sucks alot of water and blows alot out, wouldent that stir up the sand always? or hurt the filter? Its a 50 gallon tank with Green terror in it.

what kind of sand are u getting?

Do u ever hav to vaccum the actual sand?

depends on how deep the sand bed is and if u got any fish that will turn it over.

also, if u have a very thin layer of sand and lots of flow; the sand will naturally get turned over.

Think im just gona go with black gravel

that will require vacuuming regardless of the situation. ;)

or are u afraid of what the sand will do to the filter?

Yeah i know for gravel. I have white and kind of a purple gravel and my GT's colors dont really pop, thats why i want to switch colors, just thought i might go with sand but i think im just gona stick with a black gravel

i made the mistake of getting sand. it just doesnt bring out the cichlids colours as i hoped it would. so now im waiting for it all to get sucked by the gravel vacuum when i do wc. and then move onto black gravel....eventually :)
