Hey im just wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on where to bulk buy cheap sand that is aquarium safe. I dont really want to spend a tonne of cash on 20kg bags from the LFS and im going to need atleast 80-100kg of the stuff.

I havnt bought aquarium sand in more than about 20kg bags in the past so im not sure what is safe and where to get it.

Its going into african tanks which are being set up for breeding.

pool filter sand is the way too go. I paid 15 dollars for 50 lbs and was told this was high so it's cheap. call your local pool supply store and ask. just don't use playsand from the hardware store, wicked dirty and full of god knows what

What kind of sand? Play sand it cheap, you can pick it up at any supply hardware store like lowes, or home depot. Five bucks a bag. Also there is a sand called pool filter sand, it look clearer than play sand. It all depends on what kind of substrate your looking for. I don't know if they have those store in Australia.

I use to have regular play sand and it look ok for a while. i finally switched over to black Tahitian moon sand. which it really expensive, but well worth it.

Pool Filter Sand. You can get them from any pool supply store and they're $10 for 50lbs here in the US, Needs A LOT of cleaning though
