Anyway to change a sand tank to barebottom without removing the fish?

use a hose to vacume the sand out into a bucket, and then pour the wather back into the tank to have another go?

agree^^only the 1st part.just wait for a water change and suck out the sand and if your do it right it will only be a 30% water change. good luck

agreeded :) just that I dont understand why he couldn't move the fish somewhere else for an hour, or so, to get the sand out. So I thought there must have been someting special about the wather that he wanted to preserve :) Who knows what kinda wather you lads have in the states ;)

I don't want to move a big pacu, red tail cat, and a bunch of large fish. lol

c'mon man, moving large pacu is fun.

all you need is a 3ft diameter net, a rain-suit, and towels for a 20ft area around the tanks

yeah not a fan off getting things wet. sry just hold the fish under water so you know its not moving and who wants to catch a pacu in general sry i hate catching big pacus.(work at a fish store)

Only thing I'd warn you about from having the experience myself is that when you take out your substrate, no matter how well you've cleaned it all kinds of dirt gets released into the water making it really cloudy and nasty looking. Not sure if there is any risk in that but it was always so filthy that I usually did complete water changes. I didn't have fish in the tanks at the time though so it wasn't such a big deal.

Wait till you do a water change and then take the sand out via scooping it out with a bucket or syphon. I can guarentee that not all of the sand will come out. You may have to do it again the following day because floating sand particles will collect back up on the bottom.

when i did this, i waited until i needed to do a wc, then sucked the sand out with the hose, and then went about cleaning like i normally would. or you chould just shut the filters off and scoop the sand out, and then suck out the sand you couldnt scoop. either way you shouldnt have to move the fish
