im looking to setup a poly 8' tub and plan on running a sand or bead filter and skimmer as filtration. was wondering what if any benefits a bead filter has over a sand filter? and what skimmer i should run for around 800g total volume, was thinking an etss http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/1500xrcommercial-1500gallonbyetss.aspx or???

as i already have a intex 10'x30" pool i will use that and add a pond liner. could i get away without the skimmer for a while?
Sand vs bead is really your choice. Alot of people are switching to the newer style bead media for ease of backwashing the filter. It doesn't channel as fast as sand does, and requires less water volume to fluidize the bed when cleaning it. The one thing I've personally seen from some of the lighter weight beads is that if you aren't careful, you can backwash them right out of your filter.
I like ETS skimmers. The one in your link should do the trick just fine.
