sand vs gravel

i have a 150gls plywood tank i want to know if i should used sand or gravel or sand and gravel

Pfs makes great sand, I prefer a slight mix of gravel as well to give it a natural feel. Here's mine:

You need an outdoor pond for those kois. Aren't they coldwater fish?

I have been fishkeeping for over 30 years. I switched to sand (silica sand) a couple years ago. I prefer sand because it's easier to clean the waste out of the tank. The waste sits on top of the sand for the sand is compacted. The gravel enables the fish waste to filter through and sit on the bottom of the tank. It's harder to clean because you don't remove as much with gravel opposed to sand.
