if i get play sand for my tank, would it be a good idea to get an under gravel filter? or maybe something to churn the sand to release gases?

Sand and under gravel filters are not friends.:)

As long as you don't have a deep sand bed then your fish should keep it stirred up. Or you could add some Malaysian trumpet snails.

i dont know but it sounds like a good idea

what exactly is "play sand"? and whats the brand name? i was looking for it on homedepots site, but cant find it. so, no undergravel filter...got it.

play sand= sand without poo, rocks etc

Go into Home Depot and you will find the Playsand in the building materials department.

When I had playsand in a tank, I stirred it around at during water changes at least every two weeks. This will be sufficient in keeping gases from building.

The underwater filter will end up sucking sand through the grating at the bottom if you plan on hooking it up to a powerhead.

No sand with ugf,bad Idea it will fall through the plates and cause an anaerobic area.Thin sand bed unless you are planting or have fish that really like to dig.
