sand

i used sandbox sand in my 55 and will be using it in the 125 im getting tomorrow its about $3 for a 50lb bag at home depot i get a little in my fluval but its not that bad as long as u was it good first it gets out a lot of the small light stuff and looks good too

i use silica sand in my tanks, it looks awesome and has never caused any filter problems. you just need to clean it more often. i use about 30lbs in my 75gal...good luck
 
yeah prolly wont work that good for salt but hey its great in fresh my bro had some live sand that was a lot of crushed shells and what not in it most of the pet stores sell some sort of live sand

well i would have said at least 100 cause i like em deeper but anyway..

it varies a little the size grain you use.. smaller=denser
 
the smaller "denser" sand is the better stuff as it acts as a buffer and releases more calcuim and other trace elements than the crushed shell "florida sand" but i actually use a combo of both i used real sand from the ocean here in fla got it off a island because most beach sand is full of pollutants and sometimes is not natural sand
 
is it ok to use beach sand, long as the sand dosent come from an area where theres a city and cars and people to pollute it? i always heard it wasnt good
