The guy I bought my tank from said he put sand in it (regular play sand), so I did the same, but my fish are always stirring up the sand and it gets in the filter and the impeller starts grinding and I have to clean it all out. What kind of sand should i use?

Many people use sand, including play sand because it goes for a good price. First of all before using the sand you should fill up a bucket half way with sand and let the water run so all the smaller particles would float up and overflow with the water. Second thing about setting up a tank with sand is keep the filter intake tube at least 4" above the sand (well that depends on the size of your fish too).
No, you basically have to do this with all the sand out there. As I said play sand is perfectly fine.tothna said:
