OK so ive been reading a lot and im getting fixed answers on sand i was thinking about getting pool filter sand cause its white and i think it would look a lot better than gravel plus its cheaper i believe by me it was around 20 dollars for 50lbs. Anyways i believe pool filter sand is silica based, is this healthy for fish, i am thinking doing a cichlid tank or a piranha in my 55, a community type in a 30 and have a 10 which have no idea maybe a betta or something idk, or do i need to find quartz sand? Also if have any suggestions what to put in tanks it would help me i have been looking at fish for awhile so any help is appreciated.

I just put sand in my gar tank and piranha tank it looks really nice easy to clean but make sure you shut off your filter when droping the sand in because it will be sucked up in your filters i used pool filter sand about $8 for 50 pound bag does not raise ph or anything i think its the way to go

$20 for 50 pounds is a crazy price, but I doubt many people have swim pools north of the arctic circle in Minnesota. I paid $8 per bag, but I live in Georgia.

It is safe for fish though and looks nice.

I thought 20 was high too when i heard people paying 8 to 10. If anyone knows where i can get sand for that price around minnesota let me know.
