Sand?

every so often do u have to move the sand around to release gas from being trapped under it ? thanks!

not for me, i move the sand only when i vacuum the poop out of the tank

Assassin snails are great for that, they burrow in the substrate... you won't have to worry about it after that.. glass eels are good for that also.. they pretty much spend all their time in the substate.. moving lots too.

I just stir mine vacing the sand doing water changes.. If you get tiny bubbles floating up from the sand when your stirring it, you should stir it more often. I have never been concerned with it TBH.

I have some MTS in the sand and I almost never stir it
For some reason my MTS population stays in check and I even occasionally find some empty shells on the surface of the sand

Mine seems to be doing well but theoretically you should as it is a possibility.
