I just added new sand to one of my tanks and needless to say I have a terrible sandstorm in there. I did not rinse it because it is live sand and I am using it in a new FOWLR tank. Do you think it will settle faster with the power heads off or with it on and the filter running with some floss on the intake?

I would turn the power heads off to save them, sand plus magnetic driven impellers = bad. Sand gets inside the impeller well, then rubs against the magnetic rotor, roter and well get groves; groves = imbalance, imbalance = wobble, wobble = eventual break down.

Yeah the impeller is pretty shot already because it had been used to clear up pool sand in one tank and then again in another to clear black beauty blasting sand. This carib sea live sand is so fine though it's like nothing ive used before

Do you like it? I am going to convert my FOWLR from HOB setup to a Sump setup, and thought about moving all the sand and cheap live rock to the sump. If I did this I was going to try and get new sand thats black I know carib sea live makes a mostly black version.
