So I got a South American Puffer last week, and I haven't see him a snail yet. He is in a 90 gallon, he is not glass pacing but he is not swimming constantly too. Today he ate live black worms, but I don't want to feed him that. Do you gyus have any suggestions? Any help appreciated.

One question, how many SAPS do you have in that tank, and are there any other tank mates?

Just one, I heard they are somewhat shooling puffers but im not sure, and other tankmates are blackskirt tetras. No signs of either fish bothering other.

Yeah, SAP's are pretty much the only puffer that actually appreciates being in groups of 3 or more...

Given that water parameters are all in-check, it could be that hes still settling in and just needs to adjust to his surroundings...

Lastly, if it were my tank, i'd consider getting another 2 SAP's if possible just to make the loner even happier...

I'm actually looking to buy one or two more, but not now. By the mixed reviews I wasn't sure about the shooling. I have no problem feeding him black worms but I dont want to do the dentistry to often. Do you think he will eventually eat snails ? Right now they are walking on a glass by him, wich is pretty funny thing considering its a puffer lol.

How big are the snails, coz maybe they are too small for him to be bothered with them?

As for dentistry, i've heard mixed reviews, some have said even with constant hard shell diets, they found some teeth trimming was still needed...

While others have said feeding a strictly crunchy diet only had helped avoid needing manual trimming...

But if your puffer really shows no interest in snails, you could try breeding crays? Marble crays would be best if they are legal in your area...

I guess give him some time to adjust... Does he look very skinny? Or does he still have a round belly?
