I have seen arowana with smaller fish and the fish are safe as long as there are a lot place for them to hide. Anyone tried this ?

I wouldn't advise it aros can get into the smallest of places whilst hunting down small fish especially jardini's , ive learnt the hard way mines eaten and killed loads over the years even large fish that can't be eaten they just get terrorised to death , I have got tankmates but only the strong survie in my tank
