I just received a couple of sargassum frogfish, and am hoping to keep them. However, the sargassum plants in the tanks are losing their buoyancy, and I'm looking for an artificial alternative. Any ideas on where to search? I've googled like mad, but can't seem to find anything!

Also, any tips on getting these guys to eat? I've been trying small pieces of shrimp on a feeding stick, and they show interest, but no luck yet.

Any advice for these would be appreciated :)

sargassum is actually and grounded plant the weed lines are ussually what been riped off.

How many do you have? You may end up with just one as they have very large mouths and appetites.
Keep waving the food on a stick. I started my angler on live mysid shrimp that were stunned from a sharp change in temp. I used an acrylic feeding stick to make the shrimp move around in the water column. The angler now associates the feeding stick with food.

As for sagassum, you anglers will be ok without it if they have live rock or other places to hide. There might be some artificial saltwater plants that you could also use as a substitute. Or, maybe try some caulerpa.

I was hoping for fake sargassum, floating, since they're in an educational display-I'd love to help people understand their natural habitat, and make it look as natural as possible. I have some fake plants floating in there, and the large frogfish has been resting in them. If I can't get fake sargassum, any suggestions on building a platform up in the tank? If the largest one doesn't have a place to rest at the surface, he pretty much continually swims.

I have three, at the moment-2 larger ones in two separate tanks, and a smaller one in with one of the larger, who's been hiding away from the other. I actually wasn't aware he was in the tank for a few days-someone added him without my knowledge.

Thanks for the feeding info- I'll try again tomorrow morning. I've been trying with pieces of shrimp, silversides, and anchovies on a feeding stick. Should I be moving it around in front of his face, or more broadly? At least he's lipping at it now.

Maybe try moving it more broadly. You might be able to contact a public aquarium for information on where they buy their tank decorations from.

The large frogfish ate the smaller, I think... no sign of the smaller in the tank. I probably should be sad, but instead am overjoyed that he's actually had something to eat.

Bummer. Thought that might happen. I would still try the feeding stick.

even if it sinks it will eventually grow and get ripped apart and float again.
