SARTC vs. ARTC

Altho I'm new here, I see alot of people posting pics of their RTC's, which is great. all the pics strike my fancy, however it also makes me wonder. Why do more people keep south american rtc's vs. asian rtc's?
is it because you think the south american cats are better looking?
or is it because asian cats are more expensive or harder to get?
Dont get me wrong, im not biased. I think SA cats are cute, but IMHO the asian cats are more sinister looking , which I like.

RTC are unfortunately easier to get...I say unfortunately because too many people buy this fish not knowing what they are getting themselves into...I think for most of the hobbyist in the "know" don't get ARTC because of their aggression. RTC in my opinion are very docile, obviuosly you still get certain individuals here and there, but they are relativley docile, the only concerns being size and the fact that theyll end up eating almost anything you have with them....lol. ARTC will end up needing their own tank in the long run....

Its all about personality. Having owned a few of each myself I can honestly say ARTC have nothing to offer me. RTC's on the other hand still hold my interest after more than 20 years. Thats just my opinion of course, but I think that most people who have owned both will agree....... RTC's simply rule

SA rtc are much easier to keep with other catfish the same size. Artc are so aggressive and go so large to have a tank just to themselves. Would love to keep one someday, but I've seen too many pics of large ones(larger than any rtc I have seen in pics) and to hear of their aggression and know I'd need a dedicated tank. Sorry I am a few years from that prospect! Plus I love the coloration of a SA rtc much better plus you can pet them and hand feed them lol. They have soft tummies!!!

That's one of the main reasons I would think people tend to favor RTCs over ARTCs. I like the look of the ARTC, but I just think the RTCs are absolutely beautiful catfish. A buddy of mine had one for quite some time and it definitely had a very unique personality...especially for such a big cat.
