First picture is of a S. daemon approx 3.5", purchased from Snookn21 a few months ago. His 4 other siblings purchased at the same look just like this.

Second Pic is of another S. daemon approx 3". Purchased from an LFS a couple of months ago. 4 other S. daemons also purchased at the same look identical.

As you can see, body shape is very different between the two. In addition, growth rates and coloration is also very different.

Would you say that the differences is due to variation in the species due to collection of the fishes at different collection points? or would you say differences is due to genetics?

the second one is most likely a female, they are a little more rounded. i've never heard of different variants of daemon. as for growth rates, they will grow differently. i have 4 and 2 are much larger than the other 2

I think it's just genetics... the second one has a deformity in the spine and results in a short bodied appearance. They don't have a large range, so variation between collection locations would be minimal or non-existent.
