Picked these two up as Jurapari but wasn't sure, thought that maybe could be Leucosticta. One has an ocelli on base of caudal the other does not.
Pics aren't the greatest but should be good enough for an ID.

Definitely Jurupari. The ocellus is not always visible. Really depends on the origin. These are found throughout the Amazon and will vary depending on local.

I put my money on Juru rather than Leuc. Let them get some size and if the two brown stripes from the mouth to the eye stay, then they are Jurupari.

That is cool, I bought them as Jurapari. I just started to wonder when doing some reading that said that Leucs carried the spangling on the cheeks.

Thanks Jamie

Your welcome, Don. The Jurupari will have the spangling too. If you had Leuc and Juru side by side, you can really see the difference. Its hard when looking at picks on the net cause no two are the same, and the fish may have been stressed when they took the pics. But by description, the Juru will always have the two brown stripes from the mouth to the eye.

I'm not so sure. Could be cf. leucosticta.
They can both have a black spot on the upper caudal peduncle so I don't go by that.
While Jurupari do have the two brown bars that go from the eye to the mouth I pay more attention to the silver bars. The silver bars are solid on jurupari. In young leucosticta or cf. leucosticta the silver bars are broken. As the fish gets older they turn more into spots and striations.

On your fish, I can't make out the bars well enough to tell if they're solid or broken.

looks jurupari. I like have and like both, but leucosticta looks a little better IMO

Thanks, I guess waiting till they mature a little will tell more. I also picked up a couple of Surinamensis, but read that they are alot of times a different species like Dicrozoster. Is there a definite way to tell. I read that if the fourth verticle bar runs into the fifth it was a Dicro. From what I can see it does not, but the bars are so faint you can't tell.

Yeah, I have been there still hard to Id them though. They don't give a lot of Identifing info, and hard to compare with pics.
