Can anyone help me with this. I currently have what I believe to be a singular male who is definitely over the 7 inch mark with trailing fins. I would like to get him a female but this species is fairly hard to get hold of around here. After a year of looking I have managed to locate a trio, clearly from the same batch - One looks like a dominant male, larger than the others with trailing fins, the second slightly smaller one also looks like a male with trailing fins, the third however is noticeably smaller without the trailing fins. Is this a good sign that the third one is a female?

I watched them in the tank for a bit and the third one certainly seemed to be getting pushed about a little (nothing too aggressive) and 'she' had a few nips on the tail and the other two didn't - worth a gamble?

S. leucosticta are sexually isomorphic ... short of venting, there is no visible way to tell.
