Is there a proper common name for these guys? Mine have the blue/green speckles so i know they're not jurupari.

anything important i need to know other than i require really good water conditions?

There are no proper common names for any fish.

That said the common name for your fish is usually either 'jurupari' or just 'eartheater.'

Jurupari is the common name for several species, just like green terror and blue acara are.

No common name.

Just be sure your PH is less than 7.5 The leucosticta are more prone to skin lesions than any other Satanoperca.

I just call them Leuco's. Eartheater is a bit too broad as a common name (considering it governs the whole genus of Satanoperca, as well as Geophagus, Guinacara, Gymnogeophagus, etc.) and S. jurupari is a different species from the same family as you know, and calling them that will merely prolong the mislabling of the species.

Feed sinking pellets, substrate needs to be sand, and they'll love it if you crush up pellets and force them to scavenge the substrate for food (don't make it their entire dieet). Don't feed Beefheart excessively as their livers can't process it correctly, and they're very fond of live Earthworms and Blackworms.

Edit: Just for corrections sake, it's Satanoperca leucosticta.

thanks everyone and thanks for the correction japes.

i feed these sinking shrimp pellets that i used to hate because they would break up and get all over the substrate. i'll supplement the diet with bloodworms i suppose. i have them on black sand. not sure about the pH though. i'll have to check.
