Hi,
Group of 5 young adults. Have got 2 spawns so far from them. 2 females and 3 males. I lost both spawns , not sure why. I think I did not move them in time. I am too busy right now and they should be with someone who has the time to breed them seeing as no one anywhere (at least documented ) has bred them.
Please serious replies only.
Will sell as a group only. $800.00 for the group of 5.
They have bred for me twice, but like I said I have no time right now to pay close attention.
Thanks, Darin.

gotcha covered on a bump can't house them properly right now or would take them

I'd think that something as monumental as this would be soundly documented. There are no pics... trust me. I've been asking for weeks. I have a hard time believing for several reasons:

1. Darin claimed that the female was holding fry in her mouth. The other two species in the same genre do not mouthbrood at any stage in egg and/or fry development so I have to question this aspect. Why should this specie be any different?

2. It is not breeding season for these fish. Typically our fall/early winter is the breeding season for SA cichlids. Sept through early January. Having been wild caught in late March, transferred to a holding facility, shipped a continent away and then thrown in foreign water chemistry they would not be in any condition to lay eggs just a mere 4 weeks after having been received in OH. Let's not even talk about a second time. These fish are more likely young fish that were hatched just last breeding season.

3. Size. This is a fairly large growing species, 10"+, and at the rather smallish 3"-4" that these fish look to be, they would be far shy of breeding age.

4. One of the greatest breeders of hard to breed, blackwater fish has been unable to breed them under the best of circumstances. Are we to believe that Darin did it by throwing a few wild fish in a pond and "it just happened"?

Until documented I would not believe this claim. That's not to say that there is absolutely no way they bred but the odds are stacked against it... GREATLY!

Sorry, and I don't mean to derail but this kind of crap really chaps my arse. Buyer beware!! This is still an awesome fish but don't let visions of dollars pouring in from spawn upon spawn affect your judement!!

You are correct on a few things here my friend. I have no proof of any spawns. They have only been in captivity for a few months. However my water is extremly clean and soft / acidic, not sure if that makes a difference or not. Very little is know about this fish.
In my post I made it very clear that in no way shape or form do I guarantee they will breed. I have been honest through the whole thing.
You have every right to feel the way you do.
None the less, they are what they are.
Thanks.

Just for good measure, 4 of the five are over 6 inches in total lenght.
As far as the mouth brooder thing, I saw fry in her mouth once, she could have been moving them to anothe spot, who knows. I have not paid to much attention. They are all by themselves.
