Hi,

I just wanted to share a few pics of my Satanoperca Mapiritensis that I got from Justin (JK47) about a month ago. I got to watch them spawn about 10 days ago and now I have between 100-200 free swimming fry!! :0) I am thrilled that they spawned for me so quickly. Enjoy the pics.

LOL. Justin is a good friend of mine. You realize you are now one of a few people in the world to spawn that species? They must love your water or something, Justin has them for two years and gets one spawn and then they spawn for you with free swimmers in a few weeks! Congrats!

I hate when that happens.........lol, that's pretty funny. Becareful Justin might want them back now.

Very nice looking fish congrats on the spawn and welcome to MFK Cindy. Looks like you have a nice collection and always good to see another SA enthusiast on board.

Well, I can't imagine my water being much different from Justins as we only live 5 miles away from each other. I don't use RO or anything either. :0)

I could not leave the fry in with the parents as I have quite a few other fish in the tank that would love to eat them. I was not planning on having them spawn this quickly for me so I did not have a fry tank ready either. Right now they are in a breeder box in the main tank. They have been doing good for a few days now. I am setting up a smaller tank just for them and will get them into it here in a little while. I have a sponge filter that has been running for several months in my tank so I just have to move that over and it should be good to go. I will get some pics when the fry are in the fry tank.

Very cool! Congrats. It's good you remove the fry, as those Guianacata are very sneaky little guys. When my G. sp. Pindare would spawn, they would hover over them, and snatch up the eggs or fry whenever the parents would turn their back.

YAY GO CINDY!!!! :headbang2 and welcome to MFK! I am so glad I get see this species go to a good person, good luck with them! When I strip parents I usually put the fry in a large net at the surface snd leave the net in the tank. Those boxes have a way of letting out fry in my experience.

Yes you are right. I lost all my angelfish fry in one of those plastic breeder boxes as their tails could fit through the slots and then the rest of my fish would come and eat them. I actually attached a piece of metal mesh from a kitchen strainer that I cut up to each side of the breeder box where the slots are. That way there is less likelihood that the fry will fit through and the other fish cannot suck them out either but there is still plenty of flow through the box. I really wanted to protect these fry so I also built a box out of plastic egg crate and zip ties that the breeder box fits into so the other fish cannot get to them at all.IMG_0274.JPGIMG_0273.JPGIMG_0276.JPG
