Hey, goodmorning!
So yesterday I got the fish tank set up, and now I am making my final choice on my stock list. I was looking at dwarf cichlid, because im trying to fing a gorgeous fish that could live for life in a 20L gallon......
Would three saulosi be good with a ratio of 1m 2f?
I was going to do yellow labs but I decided that with saulosi you get the best of both world with the females being yellow and the males being blue.....
Do you think this would work out, im getting ready to order the fish...
Thank you!

I would say you'd be good. 1m 2f would work out great.

thankyou sooooo much for responding!!!
Another question I have is how do you tell if the young ones are male or female? Do the males have light stripes on their sides when they are like 1 inch?

You can't tell at that size. All are born yellow then the males change color as they grow. You'll have to get more than you need then remove the extra males as they grow.

You do know that Dwarf Cichlids arent Malawi dont you?
You know about the high ph and hard water these fish require?

Salousi are hard to sex, simply because the male and female can be the same yellow without stripes, it is also known for females to turn blue if there are no males around.
Generally the dominant male will turn blue, with the other males and females staying yellow, but this isnt always the case.
Salousi can also be very territorial, and in your tank, when they are full grown,. around 4 inches, there could be riots..

IMO yellow labs would be the better choice.

how does Tstove15 do it with " 4 saulosi, 1 auratus, 1 BN plec, 1 Rubbermouth plec" in a 29 gallon tank?

Would these three fish in a 20 gallon be ok?

NO!

Auratus are killers and in a tank that small they will kill all the other fish. I really think a 20 gallon is too small for ANY mbuna. But a lot of people on here disagree so I just keep my mouth shut.
torbayguy does bring up a good point though. Saulosi are more aggressive than labs so you might run into problems with the male killing off his females. You would be better off sticking with yellow labs.

oh no i did'nt mean the fish he had!
I was just wondering how his 4 saulosi were geting along.
Im really really sorry I did'nt word that right!
