Saved a pair of common plecos from an elementary school tank. They had no idea how to care for an aquarium and overstocked it and never did water changes. The plecos were the only ones that survived the milky white yellowish watter.

Now safe in my 120 the two plecos are feeling much better. The one is 12" and is named Heavy Duty, and the other is 6" and my girlfriend named it Squeakers.

My male carpintis seems to like him and follows him around.

About 2 weeks ago, I saved a pleco also. This person was giving it away and when I went to her home, the tank was very dirty and half filled. She said her filter broke. I had a hard time catching it in the tank because the water was very dirty and not clear. I could not see the fish.

Hi there....I hope you can give me some advice. I just joined today and I posted a blog comment earlier asking about how to keep a pleco alive until I can afford a big heated aquarium. I rescued a pleco that was thrown out on the grass at my apartment building. Some jerk moved out and dumped his fish on the lawn. I just happened to notice the fish. Not sure how long it had been out there. There was a dead gold fish and the pleco that was still alive. I immediately put it in a very big container of water and I add bottled water frequently. It has survived this way for over 4 days. I guess my question is how long can this pleco survive until I can get him a big heated aquarium. I won't be able to get an aquarium for about a month....Can he survive that long? (He looks just like the black spotted pleco in your pic with the terra cotta pots..)Hope you can give me some tips to keep this fish alive and well. Thanks so much....

If you can get some dechlorinator from a pet shop or local fish shop (it is very cheap). Add 1 drop per gallon and if you could get a small pump amd an airstone it will be fine. After a day or so put some zucchinni in the container. That guy in the apartment complex sounds like a real d head. Hats off on your rescue.
