Hey all

I just got home from work an had a msg from my ma who was gardening an came upon a nest of painted turtle eggs some were hatched an some were still unhatched well from what she told me she thinks she hit one of them eggs so when I got there it was alive an moved around a bit when I put it in shallow water

So I have taken the little guy an put him in a 20 gallon tank with a small filter an some drift wood to sit on out of the water

my problem is he is barley moving an some of what I guess it would be is its umbilical cord is still hanging

please can some one help me out I would hate to see it die

The remainder of the yolk is what you probably saw. It supposed to be there. It dries up the first few days of life and drops on its own. But WHY did you take it? If she hit and injured it, its going to die. Its a newborn, the stress alone will probably kill it if thats the case. It would have been just fine if you have left it. Now that you caught it, its going to be pretty frazzled if you let it go. Are you trying to keep it permanently?

Well hope you learned something.

By the way, any pics of your plated lizard? I'd love to see it, they look so cool!

If you're going to keep it any longer make sure you have the water temperature between 76-82 degrees. Get a basking light on it as soon as possible too. Your tank size is fine for now.

Well see I dont know what to do I would rather have it grow up in teh wild an not have to take care of it

Ill keep him in the tank tonight an release him after work tomorrow or I can do it before work

Good plan, you don't want to keep him for long. But if you see signs of INJURY, take him to a vet and see what they think. Make sure its a herp vet too.

Hey when you take in wild animals to vets, do we pay for the bill?

Why wouldnt you?

Well I just went to check up an him an there seems t be no sings of movement or life :(
I am upset with myself now I shoulda just left him alone

Well if he IS dead, put him somewhere where he wont go to waste. dont just chuck him in the trash. Bury him straight in the ground or place him where he can get eaten. Give back if youre gonna take, if you know what I mean.

I know how it feels to accidentally kill a wild animal, weve all done it. It ruins your day, doesnt it? :( No one blames you.

But dude I wanna see your plated if you have pics!
