Can someone tell me more about them? Like how big they get, aggression and possible tank mates. Oh and min tank requirements. I had seen pics and always liked them but pics do not do them justice!

I guess you mean Geophageus?

There are a few different kinds but the Jurupari is the most common I think.

They are stunningly beautiful and I have one in my tank.

More info to come.

Yeah, pretty sure they were Jurupari. All info would be great.

So it sounds like a species only tank is best for them. And they get quite big right? Eh I would probably only be looking to add one so if they prefer groups probably not going to be something I get. Anybody have a single one?

most geophagus get good sized they can be kept with other less aggressive fish in general geophagus are peaceful fish and are only a threat to plants or tiny fish most are colorful and some what interactive they are great for a less aggressive community they do need a good size tank because they get good sized and like company so try to get around a tank around 125-180 gallons smaller could be used but geophagus like room to swim around

ohh and geophagus like planted tanks while some will make a snake out of your plants most will live just fine in planted tanks the only problem is these guys like to sift threw your substrate looking for food so they may up root a few plants

I have a single juru and he does quite well. I believe this one only gets to about 6in or so. Some of the others get quite large, 8in to 12in. Most people that see my tank comment on him before ant other species in the tank. Oh, google geophagus and then go to video, you find quite a few cool things there.

Jurapari is actually of the genus Satanoperca along with the Leucostictas and a few others. Geophagus is another genus of eartheaters. Jurapari are less aggro and have a different mouth structure. They get around 10".
Geos have species which range from around 5" to around 10".
Here is a nice link to Satanoperca Jurapari and Leucosticta.
