So I went to my lfs and apparently they had a new arrival that they thought I'd be interested in....a dwarf lionfish. As these guys know me, if its rare here I'll probably get it, so yeah I couldn't resist. I have two important questions regarding my new beauty.

- Is it normal for him to be extremely still and just stick to the side of a rock? I think it's just time until he get's settled. (90 gallon btw)

- At the lfs they said they were feeding it live fish, I read a little on this and it says live guppies and other freshwater fish may cause liver problems. What do you guys think? I'm thinking the occasional guppy and trying to get him on pieces of shrimp or squid. (I read ghost shrimp are great, but down here we dont get them, so other alternatives are needed)

Here are a couple pics. Any other info or advice would be great.
Thanks

These guys will spend a lot of time being stationary.

When you have such large, ornate finnage, it takes a lot of energy to move around, and to be honest they are ambush predators to an extent.

Live FW fish are a bad idea. I have never had a problem getting lions onto food however. My first lion took a piece (make sure that it is small enough for him to swallow easily so he has no reservations about attacking it) of krill I just put right in front of his snout. (Be careful, they have venemous fin spines)

My second one I had to use market shrimp to get him to eat. For some reason raw shrimp has a smell that fish cannot resist. Its probably the favorite food I feed. (Although squid is highly popular as well)

Good Luck with the new guy, and in time, he will come to recognize you, and undoubtedly become one of your favorite fish.

I checked up on him all day and he didn't move at all, but as soon as the lights went out, he got his colors back and started to move around, although still always near the rock. He is so nice though. I guess I will try out the shrimp tomorrow, gonna have to cut it up extra small and use chop sticks or something, don't really dare get near lol. I hope he starts recognizing me soon I'd love to see him swim around. As for being a contender to be my favorite fish, beating my clown trigger is gonna be tough.

Thanks for the info

My triggers seem to know what is going on...but they dont display the tameness of my lion, or my past lion. Both learned to take food from my hand almost immediately. They wait for you at the front of the tank, and they follow you back and forth.

The one I have now if you hold your hand above the tank opens and closes his mouth squirting water up out of the tank. Pretty funny.

Triggers are always a little reclusive, and a little flighty for me. I love mine, but just not up there with the oscars, lionfish, and (recently discovered) clown knives.

I find my clown trigger to be extremely funny but its true I don't think it will ever become as tame as a lionfish apparently. Lets hope I can get him eating from my hand soon. When that happens he will for sure be up at the top of my list. For now though I still think my Flowerhorn is up there (he eats from my hand and for some reason when cleaning his tank, tries to attack my hand when I get close to his territory). And my oscars I could never get them to not be nervous with me, so annoying.

I saw a tank full of clown knives today but for some reason they seem reclusive to me. Plus I think they grow really big.

I'll update the situation on the dwarf tomorrow

oh heres a quick pic I got when it was dark and he started moving around a little more. He got his color a little more defined.

I heard you should wave a stick infront of them with shrimp on the end acting like it is a fish swimming by.
