My 2 foot bowfin has started to lose scales in the exact same patter on both sides of his body, close to the tail. There is also a white splotch on his tail fin.
Started a centimeter or two up from his tail, and has progressed into about a 1 inch x 3 inch patch of lost scales on both sides.
Under the scales is silvery/grey. The scales are collecting at the bottom of the tank (that's how I know scales are falling off).
I'm worried about my other fish in the tank of course. I also noticed my plecos sucking on his tail time to time, and he shoos them away... could that be the problem? I'm pretty sure it's more serious.
The thing is it's the same patter on both sides.
