To make a king story short i used to breed freshwater rays. Picked up a 1,000 gallon tank an aquarium had for salt water rays you could pet. Had a great time with it but sadly due to Covid had to move and downsized to a 300 gallon tank. I sold all the rays except for my favorite pup a BD male. I figured by the time he matured i would be able to get females for him. He matured within 2 years much faster than i anticipated and while growing by the day the window i have to find females big enough to breed with him diminishes each day. So since i was in a new state i reached out to my old connections and sadly they were not willing to ship to me due to obvious reasons. So i took to Instagram and started digging. Stumbled upon rainforest tropical fish a page to a store out of Indiana did some background checking and thought it would be a good place to start. Talked to the gentleman for 2 weeks before he agreed to talk about selling rays with me. He was worried i was too young to properly care for them (i am 26) and after showing my experience and talking tank parameters he showed me what he had available. Not only did he send multiple pictures and videos i specifically asked for the rays i picked out to be pictured before packing so i could identify they were the same rays i picked out and somehow he managed to do that as well. It wasn’t until shipping that issues arrived. He stated that usps flight was full so had to switch to tranship (a company i had never heard of) but at this point he had my money and my rays. So i prayed for the best. 2 and a half hours before delivery i get a very long text explaining the temp in Nebraska where they were at was -3 and unless they transferred them to a electric tank they couldn’t complete the shipment. They wanted 2,000 dollars which they claimed was “refundable” once i returned the electric tank. I said no finish the shipment as is they declined. Talked to the guy who i was buying from he claimed to not know anything and insisted i pay it. I said no then searched the temp in Lincoln Nebraska and it was 45. Needless to say the rays didn’t show up. He claims because i didn’t pay the 2000 fee for the electric tank they died in transit and he won’t refund my money but would replace the rays if i sent him another payment for shipping. The bank didn’t do a thing to help. Looking for any info or leads to somewhere i can report this to try and recover some if not all of my money and also to get the word out to not buy from rainforesttropicalfish (Kaiden trainor) on instagram. Had someone message me linking the pictures from that account to another one as well. Thanks for taking the time to read and look forward to any info or questions

Ah, the old refundable/returnable electric tank trick. I suppose its good you held on to that 2k at least. Tbh i cant say that its not in practice somewhere though, ive seen plenty of styrofoam or plastic coolers rigged up to haul fish but never some sort of temperature regulated transport locker.

Unfortunately rays seem like common and effective MFKer scam bait. I often wonder if some of these scams are enterprising animal rights activists targeting communities like ours and using the profits to fund their leftist initiatives. But more likely they are just morally challenged members of our community. Hell, I'll bet this kaiden trainor has one or more accounts here on MFK.

Saw that site a few weeks ago, looked real legit off the bat. Prices on rays were too good to be true, and then I noticed all sorts of Asian arows on there at ridiculously low prices as well. And the Google Street view of their address was an electrical contractor or something like that. If it seems too good to be true, it most likely is. You could try reporting them to fish and game maybe, since they're advertising illegal fish for sale? Sorry u got robbed man.

Man, sorry this happened to you.
Similar things were happening here during Covid with people selling puppies, i know someone conned out of $3500 and unfortunately they never got any money back.
Im not sure how the law works in the US but i would suggest you deal with wahtever payment method you used, eg. paypal or bank transfer and see if you can dispute the charge,
It looks like its a real business of some kind not an outright scam so you might have some hope.
Good luck
