Guys, im experiencing some weak sauce with my black aro lately: He seems to be so easily scared by the other fish in my tank! I know blacks are the most timid aro around but lately hes a sizzypants. Hes just over 50cm now but is scared to death by my big fire eel (almost 70cm). I know the eel is massive but he would never harm the other fish. He is just a big fish swimming around and looking for food. The aro gets scared and stressed by him when he just gets close...
The aro is also scared by my ST. ST is only half the aro's size but still...

Do you guys experience similar behaviour? I feel bad for my black cuz its such a nice fish and i hate to see it stressed/scared. I also think his torn fins wont really regenerate cuz of this.

Do you guys think it will pass when i power feed him a bit so he will become bigger?

Any imput is appreciated!

Black aros need room yo run from what they see as danger, how big is the tank your fish are in. 50cm (20") is pretty good size already, I don't think the added size will help any with him being stressed. If anything as the aro grows larger he will feel even more cramped and treatened by the other fish.

Can to isolate your aro in another tank?

the tank is 160*60*60cm. i cant really put him anywhere else which is also the problem here i guess. maybe if i take the eel out, then there wont be much to scare from anymore?

Some aro specimans are just more skittish than others. :)

You can also try removing the fire eel from the tank for awhile... to see if this calms your blk aro down abit. I know during the night/dark hours, Fire eels get very very active. Perhaps this may be the cause or reason why your blk aro is so spooked?
And if you already haven't done so, be sure to cover up all or any openings on the top of your tank. You don't want to find your blk aro on the floor... because it tried to find or make an escape exit out of your tank. Beleive me, they will find a way out of the tank thru the smallest cracks/slots/openings some how some way! :uhoh: GL!

hmm...i think a bigger tank would solve ur probs...i spose tho u can only make do with what u got...is the tank planted?

Thanks for the replies guys :)

The tank is already very sealed cuz im scared sh*tless that the eel will come out. The eel was trained to eat during daytime so he sleeps during night. I do see that the aro is way more relaxed when the lights are off, probably cuz the eel is in hus tube and out of sight.
The tank is not planted and its the biggest i can house in my room.
Im seriously thinking of letting go my eel for the aro's good.
